Last 2 Weeks Recap of January

18th of January, Sunday

I served by playing the piano again today. I got a bachang from a very kind old lady at church too. Got bakpia too from a teacher as well. For lunch we ate the porridge at Bubur Mangga Besar 1. It was not as nice as the nasi hainam but it was alright. I don't like the taste of the ginger though. 

19th of January, Monday

It rained all day. I forgot what I did today. Sorry. 

20th of January, Tuesday

I stayed at home playing the piano and helped mom teach her class of students.

Cut mom's students' hair! Super awesome! I love cutting hair on a real person. I dislike my doll's hair. A person hair is better. So today marks the day I handled cutting a boy's hair. It was different. It took me 2hr ish to cut one head! I was too afraid to mess it up so I did it very slowly. Not to mention my teacher's salon was booked with people. She was busy herself. Have I mentioned I have stopped attending Johnny Andrean ? Well, I did. I finished the whole lesson and was lazy to repeat. Besides, they don't make me work on a real person as often. I only did 2 haircut on real customers during my study there at JA. I moved on! Yey. I felt bad for mom's students though for waiting too long. I am just slow. I don't want to mess it up okay! I have my alibi! 

24th of January, Saturday

I had a reunion with JIC people at Grand Indonesia. Some of them couldn't make it but it was super fun meeting them and bidding Stella as she is leaving for the States day after tomorrow. We talked a lot too! Plus I changed my phone to S5! Thanks Dad!  [link]

25th of January, Sunday

I didn't play the piano this morning and so I joined my family with the morning session church service. Afterwards, I helped out in the library with Vivi and Helen. I thought there would be lots of work for me wrapping books with plastic but there were no wrappers available which was such a shame because in the end we did nothing. For lunch, we tried the famous SongFaBakkutTeh. It was so peppery. It was alright but not over the top. It was good to try but I wouldn't want to return back for more. 

26th of January, Monday

Happy Australia Day! You know how I know if it's Australia Day, it's from a Snapchat Live story! HappyStrayaDay! I spent the day buying myself a clipper at Pasar Baru! The single wahl clipper cost me Rp.350,000.00. I could still bargain for it but I felt bad because at first I bought the big set clipper which includes 4 sets of the comb with the oil thingy cleaner and I already settled with the bargain price which was Rp.430.000,00 from 450k originally. But then before I asked the seller if they sold the comb separately and she said yes the metal ones which costs 35k but it was unavailable. I didn't think and went for the whole package deal up till the point when I went upstairs and Vivi began chatting with me why I bought it with that much money if I could just buy the single one plus the separate combs. That would definitely cost me much less than the complete package. Then it suddenly hit me why I was so stupid and was so hasty in making my decision. I complained at her why she didn't tell me in the shop instead of telling me later on. Anyway we went back, ask for an exchange. The seller was again unhappy. Gah I hate her. At least be nice to your customer puhlease!!! This seller was putting a pout on her face the whole time I was there. She only smiled when I said I was ready to pay for the clipper. That smile was so not worth it, I felt like ripping her face off.. Okay I need to cool down. I wish I had seen her name but nobody was wearing a name tag. I know things could get a little heated up and tense at work but at least show that you are happy in welcoming a customer. But then again for a shop at Pasar Baru nobody does that. Upon the exchanging process she was a bit hesitant and disagreed at first. She said that the box was opened (yes it was opened by her to check if the machine is working or not) but I rebutted in my defense that I haven't used it yet so it's still brand new. She finally shut her mouth and told her assistant to fetch me the single one. I quite adore the assistant and also felt sorry for her to bare the anger of such a pouty seller. Okay I am putting another detail here that she is wearing a blue scarf on top of her head as a hijab so I won't forget what she looks like. 

After the shopping, we went home and at around 2ish we made our move to Djakarta Theater to watch The Immitation Game. Such an awesome movie! Super mindblown with the great mathematicians there! 

27th of January, Tuesday

I played the Sims4 and created a household of 6 people. I really enjoy creating the sim. However everything was not saved because I forgot to save it when it suddenly crashed when I was playing it. 2 couples were officially dating and I was about to make a move on the next couple. They were all good friends already and I blew it. I didn't save it. 

28th of January, Wednesday

I accompanied Vivi to Medical Checkup. I was still addicted to Strange Adventure and was stuck in the last level of the game. There was this black screen coming up every time. I thought it was a bug error of the game but it was part of the game. It was THE trick. It got me fooled alright. It was a bad idea to be playing this game in the car on the road. I got tremendously carsick and I felt nauseas. Medical checkup which includes: XRAY, Urine Test, consulting with the doctor and checking height and weight costs about RP 425.000,00. I forgot how much it costs when it was my turn which was 2 years ago. I couldn't remember any XRAYs going on but I guess they added it this year. After we went back home, we went to Indomaret and bought snacks and bought avocado juices which was super refreshing. It only costs Rp.6,0000.00 for a glass of avocado juice unlike in Aus which costs 5AUSD at UNSW. Afterwards, mom told me to go to the hair salon and asked my teacher to teach me the Shaggy cut. I used my doll because I don't have any models' hair to be cut. My teacher was fine with it. When I got back from class, I helped Vivi with copying questions for Mom's tuition class. 

29th of January, Thursday

Woke up at 10:20 of which I had to rush myself and got ready for my haircut lesson because I was expecting my hair models to arrive at 11. I thought I should arrive first and I had to buy bread for my teacher so that would take more time. Anyway I left home at 15 minutes to 11 which was incredibly late for me to do so. I speed walked really fast. I even bumped a gate and might have displaced it a bit which kind of made the guard angry at me and might have shouted at me but I didn't turn back and kept on walking. I didn't even say sorry which made me feel guilty. I quickly chose the bread I wanted to buy and asked the cashier what time was it. She said it was 10 minutes past 11 which I thought was impossible because I walked really fast already. When I arrived at the salon it was 3 minutes to 11 which calmed me a bit because I was punctual and to my luck the hair model had not arrived yet. So I waited for an hour they did not come. I talked with my teacher and a couple of other customers who were curling their hair. I told my mom that the models did not come so my mom sent her student's maid to come. I had to pick her up again because she did not know the place. I cut her hair. A straight model. But that was what I did that day. Which was a complete waste. The models still had not come when I left at about 1:30. I felt disappointed. Later that day I watched another psychotic thriller Se7en. And at night watched St Vincent. Both of them were alright. 

ps: Today also marks the day I exploded with anger to one of my mom's student. I simply couldn't handle her. Such a lazy bump and she couldn't understand Simple Present Tense after all those teachings!!! 

30th of January, Friday

I woke up late with itching throat. My dry cough gets worse. Today I did not have to go to the haircut lesson. I asked Mom if I could watch a movie instead. She said Yes. So Vivi and I went to Plaza Semanggi today and watched Foxcatcher. We watched with Ci Lisda. It was such a lengthy movie! Super dragging. If it weren't for Steve Carell I would not give it a try. The movie was based on a true story of John Du Pont and two wrestling brothers of whom I forgot the names. See I only remember Carell's character. The movie was about 2.5hour ish and it was painful. The climax was just 7 minutes before the ending and that too was just out of the blue. I would nominate this movie to be the most boring movie I have watched in the cinema. Congratulations to Foxcatcher. After the movie we went to eat. I ordered Jjajangmyun from a korean stall in the food court. There was a promo of getting a notebook for buying 2 of them but luckily we got 2 notebooks with 2 noodles. I guess the mas2 was super kind to us. 

ps: Vivi and I finally finished our translation project!!!!! It took us 3 weeks to do because we kept on delaying. 

31st of January, Saturday

I had diarrhoea today and in fact that was the reason why I woke up quite early today. I woke up at a quarter to 8 which was such a major improvement. But when I got back from nature call I spent 2 hours on 9gag and suddenly I dozed off again and didn't wake up till half past 12. I spent the day practicing piano for tomorrow and also we went out to see Wild Card. It was an action movie and was quite alright. So much better than Foxcatcher. Then we ate salmon teriyaki in Gandy steakhouse, bought hot chocolate from Starbucks and went home. There was a sale on books but I didn't see any interesting kind. And besides I still have tons of books at home, unread. Then at home I continued practicing the piano and watched White Chicks with my parents on HBO. We had a good laugh. I guess that marks the end of January. 

Week 2 of January

11th of January, Sunday

Went to church in the morning and played the piano for the youngsters again. Then followed the next church session which began at 9:30. It was kinda packed with people. Later that afternoon we grabbed lunch at Bubur Mangga Besar 1, for some nasi hainam (chicken rice). So good. It costs Rp.40k but hey you got a mountain of chicken rice, with a bowl of 2 fish balls, and a plate filled with beancurd, slices of chicken and duck, prawns and eggs.  Btw, I got more work to be done for the couple of weeks from now that is to translate 3 copies of books that will be used for the children church program that will be held in midyear. It's about Paul's journey. It is kind of challenging for me to translate from English to Indonesian. Vivi and Helen also found this difficulty as troublesome too because we had to browse on google translation for some simple words like what is "introduce" in Indonesian. To be frank, our Indonesians are not very good. But we tried our best though. 

12th of January, Monday

It rained heavily today and I cancelled my hair lesson today. Watched Fight Club! Due to this movie and Gone Girl, I am interested to watch more thrillers! :) 

13th of January, Tuesday

I had to go to the salon today. It's my second time cutting a real person's hair. She kinda looks like my math teacher back when I was in primary school. But that would be impossible because my teacher is in Singapore now. Dad brought home some tubs of ice cream from HaagenDazs! Kyaa!

15th of January, Thursday

I had trouble sleeping the other night and was up till 2 browsing for Fight Club and doing questions on IQ. However, I had to wake up at 7 in the morning as Vivi and I were going to Kelapa Gading after mom dropped off Helen to school. We had to go to Biomedilab to print up Vivi's documents as the printer at home ran out of ink. I was too hungry to even function well. By the time we reached home, I lost the urge to go to Pasar Baru. I should have gone there and buy the hair clipper but I got lazy. Mom said it's okay for me not to go but I had to listen to Dr. Stephen Tong's sermons about QuoVadis. I did what I was told. Meanwhile while listening to it I continued translating the books. We finished 2 books at least and still have one left! Look how we go! 

ps: The three of us started working out to following dance moves from Youtube. It's super tiring. First day of workout kinda draws the line that I am such an unfit person and tire easily. 

16th of January, Friday

Got lazy to attend hair lesson and watched a movie instead. I watched American Psycho which was a great psychotic thriller movie. I have been in love with thrillers these days. I just love how the cunning mind of a psychotic works in order to escape from the situation they get themselves into. They are brilliant despite the devious and sadistic actions they did to their preys. 

Anyway, today I also watched Legally Blonde on youtube. #guilty. But the songs are so nice and I must say I prefer the musical to the movie. Favorite songs of the day: Chip on my shoulder and So much better. 

ps: Working out Day 2! Shorter than determined but my stomach hurt really bad. I hope it's just because of soreness of muscles.

Movie Day

Three movies in a row baby! My comrades that day would be Alvin and Sharon. We started the day with watching Boxtrolls then Maze Runner. And an unplanned Magic in the Moonlight movie session along with Cim and Jopil.

Sorry for the super messy picture collage, I am too lazy. My favorite out of the three would be Boxtrolls. I love everything creepy arts. They are gruesome and yet they are appealing. The details mesmerise me. If I got the art book for boxtrolls I would definitely stare at a single page for hours, paying to each details!! 

Maze Runner was as expected awesome. My wait for this movie to be released is without a doubt worth it. I love it. It boosted my adrenaline rush. I got chills and goosebumps throughout the movie. It is the least boring movie you would see in cinemas. I love seeing Thomas Brodie Sangster to finally spurt from that tiny boy from Nanny McPhee. 

Last but not least, the movie in which Emma Stone stars in, Magic in the Moonlight! I have been eager to watch this since knowing that Emma Stone plays there. However, the movie is a total drop-down. It is boring. But I love the dialogs. My favorite phrase from the movie would be "you have lost your passport to paradise". 

Oh this is the first day my cousins came by for the holiday. They will be here for 2 weeks. 

How to train your dragon 2 (Ft. Sharon, Andrew, Alvin, Anthony)

Went to Eastgarden Westfield to watch How to train your dragon 2 after having lunch at Mie Kocok Bandung. The noodle there was incredibly tasty. Didn't take a photo of anything today as I chose not to bring my camera today as we were just going to watch a movie. Also, Sharon, Andrew and I strolled around Westfield, we went shopping. There was sale everywhere. And guess what, I just bought a shirt which cost 3$. Unbelievable.

How to train your dragon  is super awesome. Frankly, as everyone suggests, the sequel is so much better than the first one. I like the second one better too. My favorite characters is the twins! They are super cool. Don't get me wrong but I kinda have a twin fetish in cartoons.

Afterwards for dinner, we ate at Fish and Chix due to coupon we got from the back of our coles receipt. Didn't take a photo of that one either.

The Fault in Our Stars

I did my histology spot test this afternoon. It was a great thing that Kevin and Alvin helped me with my last minute review. Or else, I would screw up more. They created this mock test in a form of pdf and tested me as a practice. This was unbelievably beneficial. During the practice mock test, I was again worried and was unable to think straight. I should definitely losen up a bit and have to pass over this worrying phase!!

The test was alright, up till the mid point of it that I suddenly felt weird that I have never come across that slide before. I hope I did alright though. The test was a great finishing to the whole examination period madness. It brought a great feeling somehow.

Afterwards, I treated myself for a movie out with Kathleen and her sister, Marsha (sorry for the wrong spelling). HAHA. We watched The Fault in Our Stars. We had an hour to kill and we decided to talk, catch up and all those girly chit chats to fast forward time.

The Fault in Our Stars depicts a love story between star-crossed lovers suffering from cancer. It is meant to be a tragic story but then again there was wrong with my sad emotion that throughout the movie I could not get the sadness within it. To me, and based on my opinion, sorry for all fandoms out there, the story feels a little bit too happy and surreal. In my mind, I kept on repeating this is impossible bla bla bla. I have seen better sad romantic movies but not this one. Maybe the book is better? I don't know, I am a lazy reader. 

First time at Ritz Cinema

After a long stressful weekend with my microbiology and biochemistry reports being, I rewarded myself to a movie day and night out today. It is super cheap on Monday and I just recently found out about this. The ticket price costs 5$ on Mondays only for UNSW students only. I should have known this earlier then I could watch Spiderman and Captain America. By the way, I am going to state a synopsis so SPOILER ALERT people!

Anyway, I finally got a grip to watch The Grand Budapest Hotel, a Wes Anderson's film. I have been interested in this movie since the day Vivi told me to watch the trailer. The trailer is in fact super indie and awesomely mind-blowing.

By the by, this was my first time ever watching a movie at Ritz Cinema in Randwick. The place was vintage and reminds me of movie theaters shown on television. I love the place. It took me by surprise though of how empty the theater is at noon. Probably everyone is at work or at uni. You know what, I should watch more movies here in the future!

The Grand Budapest Hotel depicts a story of an adventure of the famous concierge befriending his companion, the Lobby Boy. Accusations, sadistic death, breathtaking settings, comical scenes are a few things I could think of to describe this movie. This indie movie will definitely take you on an enchanting disturbing adventure which may cause your heart beats fluctuate. 

There were basically a total of 7 watchers in the cinema watching this movie. Well this movie has been released since April 10.. So yeah, I was pretty late in watching it. Most of the watchers were old people though which made me to think and feel proud of myself since I could watch something that young adults would pick last in their movie list. 

Afterwards, went to grab lunch! At Noodle Inn.

Ci Lily and I had our meet up session again today. We continued reading what we left off last week. 

At 6:30PM, I watched X-men Days of Future Past. This is yet another film that I have been waiting for ages. Obviously I have been waiting eagerly since the first part of the X-men evolution. I just love Marvel movies. I don't read the comics and watch the cartoons though. But I watch the movies although I missed Spiderman and Captain America and Thor and Ironman... Whoah, these are almost all marvel movies being released recently.. I guess all I have to say is that I cannot miss X-men? 

The main highlight of the whole movie is the Quicksilver scene. I know everyone would love the scene and usually when everyone love a scene I would feel mainstream and decided to not like it. However, for this particular scene, I must say, I like it despite majority people liking it. So, I guess, let me just flow in the mainstream current; taking a turn from my hipster pathway to a whole mainstream mellow lane. 

ps: I have been listening to The Grand Budapest Hotel ost and it sounds a bit daunting for some reasons. 

Gottago.. I am going to hit the hay to have a headstart  tomorrow. After all, it is my last histology lab. And I simply cannot wait for my second trip to Vivid this year! So stay tune for more!

Today was my last "Swim-workout", did not do much laps compared to my previous "work-out". Oh, you might have noticed the quotations, Idk, I just have to use it as I am an unfit person. And guess what, I only swam thrice in three weeks. So much for an inactive person. Anyway, I had to bring back home the swimming clothes and sport shoes I had left there.

Afterwards, we went to Plaza Semangi to watch Robocop! This movie was interestingly beyond my expectations. I expected really low for this but instead I witnessed some really cool plot lines and un-boring scenes.

Then, met up with Ci Lisda and ate at a honey bread restaurant called Roppan.

We caught up with one another and had fun.. Then we headed to her university at Atma Jaya. It was a big university and really spacious too. When it was time for us to go home, we had to prepare ourselves the threat of being "sardined" (a term Cim always uses in referring to being hung around squished inside a crowded busway) on the whole journey home. oh boy..

君に届け [Kimi Ni Todoke]

A manga-based movie entitled Kimi Ni Todoke (Reaching You) took upon a journey about love at first sights of two contrasting characters on the Ceremony Day of High School. Needless to say, endless struggles had been tackled before the lovebirds could be together.

I love this movie. I feel ashamed of not reading the manga first and just being my lazy ol'self to watch the live action drama instead. I was jerking up with tears during the beginning of the movie. This was absolutely embarrassing but honestly I have a weak spot on stories about someone being bullied or someone being an outcast and then there would be this one hero or several kindhearted characters that would go beyond boundaries of status to be the bullied character's friend. OOps, forgot to say spoiler alert, this was a tiny-bit of what happened in the movie.

I have never cried so much after watching a movie like this. Not even watching A Walk to Remember could lead me to shedding buckets of tears. I would love to re-watch this again in the future and test if my heart would again sink in the touching scenes offered in this sweet movie.

Day 2- Shenzhen ✈

Soft white pillows, warm bedcovers, chilly atmosphere, a streak of sunlight going pass the window covers... It seems too exciting that I was in fact in Shenzhen already. I was awoken by Miley's bright music video, the Wrecking Ball. I tried to sleep it through but then... Work B*tch was on. Yep, that's it, gotta wake up before I dreamt about something related to Britney's tune. Next thing in the morning was that I got a morning call from my mom and my cousin. It was time for breakfast at the hotel.

The breakfast was exquisite! I totally recommend everyone who visits Shenzhen to stay at this hotel! Crowne Plaza Hotel serves a great variety of food ranging from Chinese Food to Japanese food and even Western.

Let the food gobbling begin! :3

Afterwards, I felt uneasy with my bowel and had to skedaddle my way upstairs to my room. Got a quick shower and got ready for our next trip. We went to Windows of the World! 

The night before, we tried to survey how to use the vending machine ticketing system. However, that day we asked for help from a guy who was just buying a ticket for himself. Each ticket costs different depending on the station. The further the station is the more expensive it will get.

We decided to change our destination to go to Splendid China instead of Windows of the World. It was just a 15 minutes walk from this place to the next destination.

You would have guessed that it was winter period there by the fact of our thick winter apparels. But it was unbelievably hot. I was confused why it was still called winter with a temperature like that. I used three layers of clothing and was sweating like crazy. I was too lazy to take them off because I had to carry them or put it in my bag. My bag was already full so I would just have to bear with the heat. 

I felt sticky all the way. 

At around two, we watched a horse back battlefield show. It was super cool. There were women riders too. When I was watching it, I was rooting for the enemy instead of the real hero. Awkward. I wish I had a really long lens and a professional camera. I could really get awesome photos out of it. I saw a woman sitting in front of me had got many good photos with her long lens. Oh I just wish I could turn back time and asked her if I could borrow her camera and slot in my sd card and took some snaps. That would be so cool. I bet on it.

Subsequently we had to move to the next show on the schedule. There was a VA ethnic tribal show nearby as shown on the map. However, it was not as near as what the map told us. It was absolutely far. The place was huge.

I was sitting at the very back at first, but then this old man beside me smiled at me or some sort. He looked friendly and so I smiled back. Not a word was exchanged that time. Suddenly, someone in front of us just switched seats and the seat was empty. This old man was signalling me with his head that I should sit in front to get a better view. I was incredibly lucky to get top rows as I needed to get good pictures this time. Finally a chance to get decent photos unlike the horse show. 

The show started with these bunch of dancers and musicians taking up the stage. The host started to speak Chinese in which I just zoned out. I noticed that everyone was shouting along some word "memeng" or "momeng", I don't know the spelling, I was clueless what it meant, maybe some sort of greeting, nevertheless, I just followed the crowd. Basically the whole show just introduced the audience about their rituals especially on wedding rituals and war rituals. The host started to ask for a volunteer from the audience. I was totally freaking out if he were going to choose randomly, I started to ignore eye contacts and was acting busy on my camera even though I was not taking any pictures that very moment. Suddenly, a hand rose from the row I was sitting on. It was a Chinese lady. She was very brave. I acknowledged that. Afterwards, the host asked her to pick one of the packages he was holding. If inside the leaf wrappings are chillies, it means war, while a leaf brings peace. She chose leaf and everybody clapped. The host also told that the village's beauty image is based on their long hair. A man with long hair shows that he is great and the darker your skin colour, the more handsome you are. Same goes for women.

After sometime, it was time to call out a male volunteer from the audience. This tourist gathered his courage up and went up there. He knew no Chinese. I was imagining myself at his position. The poor guy was kind of teased. I could pick a few words from what the host was saying. 

Anyway, about the wedding rituals, if someone from the tribe likes you, either the man or the woman would give you a cow head. This means prosperity. 

There were more dancings later on. 

In my opinion, I preferred the horse show so much better than this one. But it was a nice experience to see that China also contains some ethnic tribes within it.

It was time for us to leave and so from OCT station, we went to HuangJiang Rd for some shopping. My dad was buying some LEDs.

Bought fruits, snacks, and other street food to fill our tummies. Also bought the sweetest orange ever. Even the skin was edible. The seed is crunchy. I don't know what the orange is called. I must have forgotten about it by now. 

Time to go home..

To our misfortune, we caught the wrong line train station. So we had to transit to Grand Theater station then to GuoMao, the place we were staying at. 

It was definitely a long day trip. Took a shower and I was super tired to be able to go out for dinner. My feet were killing me. 

The parents went out for some baikut dishes and they brought us some home. The kids ate our dinner in our hotel room while watching Discovery. We also played some cards. Then I fell asleep while watching Home Alone 1 on the ipad. I must had been super exhausted.
