Microcosmic Life - Crazy Love

Hello, how long has it been? My last post was about completing my first 3 days of work in Jakarta. And now I have passed the 3-months probation! I am a full-timer now. Thank God for his sustenance that I can continue working. 

here's what my office looks like. It's an open office. Took this when I was doing OT. 

On the 17th of March, I started working form home. It has been 7 weeks and will continue for another 3 weeks till late May. The COVID19 situation is serious taking a high toll in changing the economy and also all the lives that it has snatched away. 

I thought I could use this quarantine period for a more productive use, rather than bingeing on Netflix (which I did the first couple of weeks, which seriously disrupted my sleeping patterns). I mean it's not getting any better now, I still sleep past midnight. So I picked up this book Crazy Love by Francis Chan. It is a farewell gift from Ci Vienna and Ko Howie. I just managed to read it now. 

First impression on Crazy Love was that I was expecting a relationship boy/girl talk. I didn't even read the blurb. I suddenly realised it was not about this when I read Ci Vienna's letter to me which made me read the blurb. This book is about something much greater! Digging through and challenging how we respond to God's amazing love for us when he sent Jesus on the cross to die for our sins. That is a crazy move for an act of love to let His precious son to die on the cross for sinful people like us: aka enemies of God. So then how are we to respond when we believed in God's act of love, and Jesus' dying on the cross? Do we just believe and stay quiet? 

I was actually challenged because after all this time, have I been believing and doing good works as a fear of the penalty of sin. I myself would not want to go to hell. This is actually a very selfish motive. I just wanted to be "safe". So at times, to be honest, serving God seems like a chore. However, this book encouraged us to LOVE God instead of fearing him. And if by Loving God or Obsessing over God, then all the rest will just follow through easily. Have I been loving God and longs to spend more time with Him. There is actually a section in the book saying that most people spend endless hours watching TV rather than spending time reading the bible. Well that's a slap in the face. I prefer to watch than reading the bible or spending time with God. 

Another great point that the author mentioned while writing this book was the urgency of spreading the gospel to people. We don't know how long we are going to live in this world. We should be ready at all times. Considering the fact that COVID19 is still wandering around causing sickness and deaths all around, it's a wake-up call that life is short. And we live in such a small microscopic world as compared to all to God's other creation. We are just tiny specs of dust and yet we always think that we own everything and always focus on our happiness first, thus limiting God in our daily lives. But, if we compare this to what God has given us, he is generous to us, and yet we are selfish and God-limiting. We should have been able to give God all of us. With the very limited time constraint that we all have, we should maximise this time to do God's work. 

Lastly, the challenging part is to be convicted and act upon it. The application part has always been the main hurdle to test whether we are lukewarm or not. Whether we would do anything for God. We should listen and obey God unconditionally. Yes this might sound off par or may even sound like a religion fanatic, but then again why won't we do this? Why shouldn't we? God has provided so much for us, it's the least that we could do as His instrument to serve Him. At the end of the day, it is always us needing God more rather than God needing us. 

I pray that during this period, we as believers of Christ can love God more and that our faith can be supported by our actions. We shouldn't deceive our Faith just because of what other people may think or see. We need to think what God would think of us. All of us will be judged at the end of the day. We shouldn't be ashamed of God. We should acknowledge Him. 

Hopefully this post may struck you a bit as it did to me. It is recommended to recalibrate your beliefs.

The 10 days of January

1st of January, Thursday

Hello 2015! Goodbye 2014! Also, Happy birthday Vivi. Finally you're 17!! So we got church this morning and we celebrated New Year with the whole congregation of GKY in Jakarta. It was a full house we even had to sit in the second floor. It was packed. The sermon was about  being the light to the world taken from the passage from the gospel Matthew 5:14-16. We also have to show good work and worship our Father in Heaven. The governor of Indonesia, Bpk Basuki Tjahaja Purnama aka Ahok, also attended our church today. It was very encouraging when he shared that he read the bible diligently everyday for a very busy guy like him. He shared that he was trying to make a new movement to make a better Jakarta/Indonesia of making it cleaner, appropriate for the homeless and all sorts. After church, we went to the museum of GRII in Kemayoran along with Laushi DongLan. A student price ticket costs Rp.50k and an adult ticket costs Rp.100k. We haven't eaten lunch yet but our excitement overrides the hunger. The museum is called Sophillia. It was quite extraordinary. There were a lot of paintings from famous artists such as Leonardo DaVinci, Michael Angelo, Rembrandt, DelaCroix, VanGogh, Picasso, and more. No photos were allowed to be taken inside the gallery. The good thing about the museum was that there is the tour leader and she describes each painting very well giving us a broader view about the story inside the painting itself. After the museum session we went back home. And we ordered bakmi GM and Dominos for our super late lunch + early dinner. Received cake from Ie Susan, and again it is always a pleasure to my tastebuds. 

2nd of January, Friday

Went to Senayan today! Shopping at Senayan City and Plaza Senayan. It was great. The mall was quite small but it was nice to visit a mall that I last visited 2 years ago. The last time I went there was with my friends from Uniprep. I almost got a pair of comfy shoes today but I was a bit disappointed with the model so I decided to search for another that suits me more. Couldn't believe there are continuations to Wicked. I am lazy to buy them. I think I'll just read the wiki about it. Ate Mie Laiker today which was satisfying! 

3rd of January, Saturday

Went out with Dad and Vivi today to Plaza Indonesia. We finally bought the T-shirts we wanted from a comic shop. It was a pay2get5 promo and it was worth-it! Vivi bought lots of shirts. We then ate at Zenbu again. I felt super bloated after devouring the 3 large portions for the three of us. We had to pack the remainder home because there were so many leftovers. Then we bought bread from Tous Le Jouis. It was such a cute bread shop. It smells wonderful there. Afterwards, we went to my cousin's house and spent 2 hours there. Good thing, Vivi was there with me, so the two of us had each other to keep each other's companies. 

4th of January, Sunday

It rained in the morning and the atmosphere was nice and chilly and dark. My alarm clock went off but I was confused why mom had not woken up yet which was a bit peculiar since she is an early riser. I had to wake up because I had to play the piano for the sunday school kids. I was worried that we would be late but luckily we didn't and I arrived at church at a nick of the time. After playing the piano, I ran to the church service but apparently I was late as the sermon had already started. I had to sit down outside and I decided to just join the next service which is at 9:30. I talked to some sweet old people. They were very friendly. I also found a friend at the toilet. Her name is Yuri, she's a very chatty woman and she's around late 30s or early 40s. I sat with her during service. It was a nice feeling to have a friend. Church was about the 3Ws: Worship, Word and Witness. We, as Christians, have to worship our Lord as a respond to His love for us. We also need the Word and grow with it. The Word about the gospel is very important as it saves us all from death. Lastly, we ought not to stay quiet but be a witness to all people about God's sovereign and great love for us that he sent his only son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us and it is only by Jesus that we can be saved. 

After church, I was super hungry and Vivi, Helen and I went out for dimsum. Dad had already gone home while Mom was still at church having a sunday school teachers monthly meeting. We ate at SunCity, it was crowded. We had to wait for 30 minutes to get a table. The food was amazing, my craving for dimsum was now fulfilled. It was pricey though but still cheaper compared to Sydney. We should have gone there during weekdays as there is a 50% discount while weekends is only 30%.

5th of January, Monday

I woke up at 8 with a stomachache. I think this might be because of the chilli I ate yesterday with the siomay. Then I watched some youtube videos of Mickey Mouse shorts. It's very cute, I really adore the animation. I had the motivation to go to my hair lesson today. But I thought I would just go after lunch. My cousins came over as she was 17 and had to create her Indonesian Identity Card like Vivi. Ate lunch with them and talked for a while. Mom and Vivi had to go and deal with this errand while I had to wait for Mom's class while she's away. So I did, when I reached home it was about 2ish and I still procrastinated and waited that I would just go at around 2:30. But in the end I played the piano and decided that it was too late for me to go anyway. You know what, I had been struggling with this thing this summer. It has always been a battle for me to go for my lesson and most of the time, my procrastination overrides my motivation of  finishing the lesson.

I went to the haircut lesson again today but I only took 1 lesson since I was planning to go to a JIC reunion. However when I reached home, I felt so unwell, I kept on sneezing, my eyes were puffy and my nose was blocked. I had to drink honey with lemon which was super soothing. I decided not to join the JIC group despite the fact that it was me who chose the meeting location, how irresponsible I am. I felt super bad. 

Anyway look what I found on the Bajaj today with a major flaw of spelling mistakes. Adelle should be proud out of the attempt though. 

8th of January, Thursday

Being diligent today and went to the hair salon early in the morning and finished at around 5:30. 

9th of January, Friday

Reunion with JIC peeps: Stella, Filbert and William since I couldn't make it two days ago. First plan was to go to Sun City for a dimsum which is 50% of every weekdays before 3pm. But we changed spots since we kinda past that dimsum happy hour and we changed to Henis instead. Such a great time to catch up with the USA peeps since we haven't seen each other for 2 years. What a time.

Then later that night, watched Gone Girl with Vivi. I love it, and Rosamund Pike has definitely grabbed my attention and she has charted to my favorite thriller actress list. 

10th of January, Saturday

It is super hot today. I don't even bother to look at the temperature but I am guessing it is somewhere above 30 or maybe nearing to 40. My motivation of going to the hair salon is gone in an instant when I was having my honey milk breakfast. Rain started to fall too. Gone, no haircut lesson today, that's it. The three of us played heads up which was fun and a traditional pictionary game. Despite sweat trickling down our faces, we still had so much fun and laughing out loud. What a good time. Then we went to the supermarket and bought lots of fruits. Oh, btw, I finally had my first 1-dollar sandwich ice cream at Lokasari, ordered the match flavor and should I say, I am not satisfied. The taste was distasteful. I spent the rest of the time practicing piano for tomorrow Sunday School and blogging this lenghty post.

Another post about nail arts! YEY! Before starting on the nails, I would like to explain about what a lazy day today was been for me. Here we go... woot woot, a journal post :)

The intention of swimming was blown away because I started to feel home sick. I only have at least a week left before I fly back to Sydney. The urge of spending more time at home empowered any motivations I had the previous night. I had a plan on what I should do today being nicely organised the previous night.

Anyway, later that morning, I had picked a book called The Search for Wondla and an Indonesian book called Silsilah Di Kitab Kejadian in which I had the motif on reading through them but after a few flip of pages, I tossed it to the side of the table and without hesitant reached out for my laptop.

Another "thing" happened today, I finally paid my overdue amount at University Terraces after receiving constant warning emails. I had mentioned to the guy that I would pay the overdue amount as soon as I got back to Sydney which was on the 27th of February (arrival date), however he didn't believe me and instead, warned me this would be reported to a debt collection agency and a bad record will be written under my name which will last at least for 7 years. Honestly, I was reluctant on paying something so huge of amount via internet especially to the insecurity of internet signals here in Indonesia, what if anything goes wrong when I was paying it online. I am not the most tech-savvy person and call me a caveman or anything for not relying the internet especially at this gadget age, I don't really care. I worry, okay!

I watched a lot of videos on youtube. A worm of curiosity grew inside of me and I watched how to read palms or fingers. It is pretty interesting how the three phalanges of the fingers depict different successes for each segment. Sort of a fortune-telling action that is and I had to stop before it went to far. You never knew how boredom could strike you to do stuffs you have never even thought of before.

Moving on, after lunch, I tried to clean up the cupboards in my dining room. It looked okay, I found new mugs and found tumblrs which I will bring to Sydney :)

Then, went for grocery shopping.

And, the highlight for today, nail paintings! Watched a video on how to make googly eyes nails <3 Super fun to make but you have to have sturdy hands while making the dots. Patience is definitely key and what makes waiting fun? Watching Conan O Brien's shows on youtube of course.

After the nails are done, I came to realise that these googly eyes look more like frog eggs... LOL 

Watching Miss Indo 2014 right now! Saw Diana Jo on TV! Super psyched! All the best, girl! Seems a bit bizarre watching someone familiar on tv; in a positive way of course.. HAHA 

Bookworm-wannabe

You might have known from my previous posts that I have been clinging onto books lately due to the fact of having nothing to do. My jobs during summer are just hitting the books and draw. Being jobless is definitely a blessing in disguise. This is because my eyes are opened to a wonderful imagination offered from the adventurous books that had been lying on my shelf collecting dusts. 

No matter how slow I am in reading, and regardless of easily bored I am, I am trying my best to finish as many books I can this holiday.

 Last but not least, I realised that my summer is ending soon. I cannot believe this. I haven't packed and essentially I am not ready to start my second year disregarding how jobless I am in the holiday.

Equip Women Conference 2013- Women Meeting Jesus

I could not believe myself that I did not have the urge of waking up on a cold Saturday morning. I set an alarm but then I kept on snoozing it until it was 7-ish. There is an annual women conference today in the city and we could not afford to be late.

Took a shower and this was probably the first time I shivered in coldness endlessly. Winter is just around the corner and I have no clue what I would be like during then. Ate a quick breakfast of muesli and greek yogurt and the three of us left the house to the bus stop. And city, here we come.

In the bus, met up with the Maroubians (just learned a new term from Ci Icing in which all the people living in Maroubra are called that) while us (I'm not sure if I am counted as well, wait, I think I do, along with Ci Icing and Cim) are called the Kensingtors.. Met Sapi, Ci[Fefe, Hilda, Copin, Yenli, Tika, Grid, Lily, Fen2] and I think that's it. Not sure if I am missing someone else.

Waited for Ci Frida too and together met up with the others at Starbucks, Darling Harbor.

After a while, we went inside the convention center of Equip Women Conference. This year's title is about Women Meeting Jesus.

The conference was divided into about 3 sessions. There were a total of five talks and one elective. So for the first session there were 3 talks brought by 3 different speakers. Then, morning tea. Followed by another 2 talks and an elective (Following Jesus, Serving Jesus and Questioning Jesus) with a lunch break in between.

I picked Following Jesus as my elective. And I would tell more about it later on in this post.

Let's glance through the talks!

As the title is about Women Meeting Jesus, we looked through all the women biblical characters that met Jesus.

Talk one was presented by Lisa Thompson. The first woman encountering Jesus was Mary (Luke 1:26-55). Yes, virgin Mary who gave birth to an extraordinary son, Jesus Christ, the saviour of mankind. The speaker illustrated Mary's lives like a bunch of flipping photos in a photo album. Where there is a loss, there is a gain. Likewise, Mary had her ups and downs of being a mother. Mary's loss includes that a sword will pierce Mary's heart, she struggles to keep being reminded that her son is also the Son of God and death of Jesus. However, coming to her gain, Mary is rejoice of Jesus's ascension, she used to be delighted of being the mother of God but now she is delighted to be the child of God.

Talk two was brought by Kelly Landrigan. The second woman was a sinful woman where she came to a Pharisee's house where Jesus was dining (Luke 7:36-50). She brought an alabaster jar of perfume with her and started to wet Jesus' feet with her tears, wiped them with her hair and kissed them, and poured the perfume on them (Luke 7:38). The sinful woman knew very well of her unrighteous state for she had sinned too many. However, this woman knew that her sins could be forgiven through Jesus just before His crucifixion. As we are all sinners, we should therefore be like this woman to treat God extravagantly and kneel before him for him to forgive our sins.

Talk three was brought by Annabel Nixey. The third woman was a sick woman (Luke 8:40-56). She had suffered bleeding for 12 years and no one could heal her. But then, she touched Jesus's cloak, her bleeding immediately stopped. On the contrary, Jesus suddenly shouted "who touched me" while walking in the crowd. Everyone was in fact touching him as it was really crowded. However, this cornered the woman out and she confessed why she had touched him. Jesus told her that it was not by the power released when someone touched him or something, but her faith has healed her. It was not the touch that healed her but her faith in Jesus.

We sang a couple of songs before break. What I find interesting about the surrounding that day was that even the deaf were singing along using sign languages. That literally moved my heart. I almost shed a tear but then I held it in. I was actually motivated to sing even more though.

Then there was morning tea! A bit shocked with the portion size though but it was all good. I was stuffed with the snacks provided! 

Yes, like any other posts, I would usually mention all the names here. But let's play a game.. Time to guess.. Put down the answers down in the comment section below. Talk four presented by Anna Moss about Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42). Martha was trying so hard to serve but she got all the point of serving all wrong. There was a problem in her heart. Her rage immersing under the surface. She even told Jesus what to do, "Lord, don't you care..". Her serving stopped her from listening to Jesus. It is easy to give what we want to give for others. Most of the times, we want to show and give our abilities to Jesus. But Jesus does not want that. He only wants us to be needy of him. He wants us to open up ourselves to God. We should urge ourselves to stop being busy and listen to Jesus. Beside, Jesus comes to the world not to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28). Likewise, while he was dining in Martha and Mary's abode, he was trying to give out the good portion of life that is salvation.

Talk five brought by Carmelina Read about the resurrection women. It is our duty to worship and praise God. We cannot be called anything other than we are. Jesus is worth living for and dying for.

After the last talk, there was a lunch break. Ci Fen2, Cim and I went to take a look at the bookshop. Cim and I bought three books: Lost, Truth and Sex is not a problem but lust is. Then we went to buy lunch. This moment, we were separated from the other girls. But then we met one another up again while eating our lunch.

Subsequently, we returned for the elective we had chosen! I chose Following Jesus. And the elective was a little bit like a talk show involving six different women sharing how they follow Jesus. It was merely a great inspiration and motivation for all of us. They love Jesus so much that they are ready to sacrifice everything to serve Him.

After the conference of 2013 was over, took some more photos in the Photo Booth and then me, Cim, Ci Tika and Kriska decided to go back home. Well, we decided to make a quick stop at a macaroon shop called the Blackflower located near Chinatown to redeem the free macaroon coupon I got during orientation week.

I chose the Thai milk tea flavored macaroon! It was really delicious. Cut it equally into quarters and shared it with Ci Tika, Kriska and Cim. Should have taken a photo of it. grr.. How I regret it.

Walked to the bus stop. I have got skin peeling off from the shoes I was wearing. There were blisters everywhere but I managed to survive. While waiting for the bus stop, I talked with Kriska about animation videos! Super fun. I thought me and Vivi were the only ones watching animation videos on youtube. We are not alone.. LOL.

Went back to Ci Icing's place. Read a book that Ko Sui and Ci Grid lent us. It's called God's Big Picture. Read it together with Cim. We read aloud this time to avoid being sleepy and dozing off. We should hurry in finishing the book as Ko Sui and Ci Grid were getting ready to pack up, as they're leaving to Indonesia for good.. TT_TT.. I have only known them for like 11 weeks. And now, they are leaving.

Oh yeah, ate some porridge cooked by Ko Jeffry! Delicious! Then after reading, we went to have dessert outing to Bondi to Max Brenner! Chocolate galore!

I felt so guilty eating chocolates so late at night. However, both of these were such a treat!

Chinese New Year and Valentine Nails

I decided to paint my nails again ! This year is the year of the snake. But then, I was struggling in finding an easy way to create snake scales nail art. Anyway, I decided to do valentines nails instead. This is a great celebration to utilize the heart nail polish that Sheila and Willdy gave me last year :3.

Another difficult situation in this process is the drawing of the jigsaw puzzle using a toothpick. My hand was shaking terribly while doing my right nails.

Oh yeah, I have been wanting to post about the most addicting ipad game ever called, Tapped Out. It's similar to The Sims but instead the characters are from cartoon The Simpsons.

The Bare Necessities

Today Cim and I went out with Ci Lisda. Ci Lisda and Cim haven't met each other for a very long time. As a matter of fact, this is the first time during the long summer break in which they both went out.

The three of us went to Grand Indonesia by busway. We waited for Ci Lisda at the Olimo stop. While waiting Cim was encountered by a foreigner from China named Phillip. He was a bit lost (perhaps) and was asking Cim for direction at which bus stop he should stop to Monas. They chatted for a quite sometime while I waited for Ci Lisda in the bus queue. Then after a few more minutes Ci Lisda came and Cim introduced both of us to Phillip. Then we went into the bus. And at Monas, we departed.

At last after the dempet-dempetan in the crowded bus, we finally arrived at Plaza Indonesia. We took a couple of pictures before crossing again to Grand Indonesia.

We were starving and we stopped by at Bonchon! It was my second time eating there. LOL. I ordered the same food last time. The chicken bits dish was awesome. More chit-chats here while eating the chicken bits. All sorts of beans are being spilled right in this fast food restaurant. LOL. It has been a long time since we went out like this.

After we ate our fuel, we continued our journey. I needed to buy an international adaptor thing for cables and small hooks for my room. We entered Ace Hardware for that reason. Unfortunately I only attained the adaptor. I can only find bathroom hooks and they do not match my study desk/cupboard/wall in the least perspective.

From there on, we stopped by The Soup Spoon. I have been wanting to try the soup there. It looks really appetizing from afar. And the good thing about this restaurant is that even though you have no idea which flavor to try, the kind counter guy will gladly give you testers for all the flavor there. There are 6 flavours there in which I can only remember some: Mushroom, tomato, pumpkin, beef ganoush, Simon & Garfunkel and another one I forgot but it tasted so sour. At the end of the tasting, I decided that I should order the cream mushroom soup cause it tastes similar in my mouth unlike the others.

There were 4 types of serving too: bread bowl, usual bowl, served with rice and zupa soup. I ordered the bread bowl.

 We were pretty full during devouring this meal even though we shared but still it was a bit of a heavy meal.

 Then to quench our thirst we stopped by at Gong Cha, a new bubble tea shop that has just opened.

 The cashier looked a bit familiar like Filbert, my friend from WMU. I could not stop laughing when I was ordering. HAHA. I think the guy thought I was crazy or sth. But who cares. LOL.

Afterwards, we went to Kinokuniya! I was searching a pencil box in which I can use abroad. But still no luck of finding the one yet. Cim met her friend and they talked while Ci Lisda and I went around Kinokuniya.

We also ate at Pizza Hut again. I know all of you might probably thinking that we are eating non stop right now, but then again the point of us going to the mall today was to buy the necessary stuffs I need for my room and abroad and also food culinary. I know right, food culinary at a mall. LOL.
